I'm just putting the last few things in my bag and then it is out the door to join Kerry on the train to Portland.
I love going to Portland. It is the best of Seattle and Bellingham all rolled into one. If Portland were located where Olympia is I would SO live there. My friend Carrie lives near downtown and she is a short distance to shopping, bars with happy hours and yummy breakfast places.
This weekend the Navy is in town (Fleet Week!) so who knows what kind of trouble we will get into but knowing Carrie it will be worth the wait.

Oh yes, you read that correctly. When I heard they were getting back together I about died. I taped the Today Show appearance. I googled them. I signed up for their newsletter. I emailed with Katie all day about them getting back together and a possible tour. You could say I was pumped. Katie came over and we watched the Today Show performance and when they said tour I hopped off of the bed and went straight to my laptop to see what the tour dates were and find out when tickets were on sale. I emailed some people to see if they wanted to go and hence the group of NKOTB ladies was created. The day the tickets were on sale in June I was at Kerry's parents computer pushing the refresh button at 9:58am. I wasn't taking any chances that the tickets would be sold out. The weekend before Thanksgiving Kerry, Laura, Lisa and Katie and I all met up at my mom's house to get ready and head to the Tacoma Dome for the New Kids on the Block reunion tour. We even made shirts. Very awesome shirts I must say. I crimped Katie's hair with her crimper (YES hers). Here's a picture of us in all of our glorious 80's makeovers and one of me actually using the crimper:
Kerry was nice enough to wear the Danny Wood shirt (thanks for taking one for the team). Lady Gaga and Natasha Bedingfield opened for them. Both of them were pretty good openers. I still think Lady Gaga is strange but that is OK When the New Kids came on stage I thought I would die. I also thought the roof would come off the Tacoma Dome. It went crazy! Kerry giggled to herself for the whole first song. She couldn't believe we were actually seeing them and it was 2008.
The show was really good. They did a great job of playing their old hits as well as some of their songs on their new CD. I thought it was a great mix of both. Joey and Jordan even sang their hit songs from their solo albums. Here are my top 10 favorites from the concert:
1.Rotating stage in the middle of the floor seats. Such a genius idea to have them close to the crowd. From the looks of it everyone was civilized. I however would have died being that close to Donnie Wahlberg.
2.Donnie Walberg!I didn’t think my teenage obsession would come back with such force but it did. I pretty much screamed my head off any time he said anything.No seriously, EVERY TIME!!
3.Jordan Knight performing with his shirt open blowing in the wind machine. The girls had come over to make sure and we watched the NKOTB dvd I own and one part has live concert footage and what do you know there was Jordan doing the same thing.It also happened to be the picture Laura put on her shirt. Oh yes check the photos above to this one below.
4.Running into friends who also went to the show. Oh yes there were quite a few people at the Tacoma Dome I knew were going and some I found out went later. It is nice to know I am not alone in my love/obsession.
5.Giant buttons – Katie and I bought giant Joey and Donnie buttons. Oh yes and sported them at the show. Mine is on my desk as we speak.
6.Pose off – at the end of their song Click Click Click they do a pose off. At our show the band joined them in the pose and that was awesome. I watched some other pose offs at other shows and I didn’t see any where the band joined them so that made our show a little more special.
7.Dancing, dancing and more dancing. Oh man was it a big ol’ dance party in there. I think we danced for practically the whole time we were there.

8. Watching my friends every time their favorite New Kid was on stage. They had the happiest look on their faces.
9.Hangin’ Tough – they sang that as their very last song and I must say it was a great choice. The joint was hoppin’ when the beat started. They even rocked some of Queen’s We Will Rock You in the middle.
10.The Ladies – It was a blast hanging out with those four ladies and sharing in the experience of our teenage years. Only two of us had actually seen them when they were big in the 80’s or 90’s. The next time they tour I know who my go to team is. Thanks for the memories ladies!
This weekend was my mom's annual July BBQ. We had a lot of things to do to get ready for it but it is always worth it.
On the menu: pulled pork hamburgers bratwursts ribs potato salad baked beans taco salad pasta salad green salad watermelon cous cous fruit salad ice cream cake pie mini ginger cupcakes lemon bars banana split cake
There was even more but I really can't remember everything. Man was it good. I didn't over eat like normal. It is all about pacing yourself.
We had family and friends, card playing and hillbilly horseshoes in the front yard. It was good to see everyone once again. I can't wait until next year!
For the 4th I took of an extra day and headed down to Lynnwood to hang out with Judy. We had a plan of "no-plan". We talked about shopping, scrapbooking, movies and bbq. Surprisingly we did all those things.
I took the train down Wednesday night which was nice because that meant I had all day Thursday to do nothing. Judy went to work and I hung around the house doing nothing. I didn't even get up to shower until 3:30. I thought it would be a good idea to be ready when Judy came home just in case we wanted to do something. We did! We met our friends Erica and Jon at Claim Jumpers for happy hour. Apple martinis plus good friends is always a good night. Then Judy and I headed over to the movie theater and our plan was to see whatever movie was playing soon. We choose the Happening. I liked it more than I thought I would. I was very disappointed with M. Night's The Village so I didn't have high hopes. It all turned out pretty well.
Friday we woke up and headed up to the Tulalip outlet mall for some shopping. They were having tons of 4th of July sales. Judy and I did pretty well at the shopping. I came away with three shirts, a tank top and a pair of jeans. Then we headed over to the Kohls that was there. Yes, I said Kohls. If any of you have been to a Kohls you know what I'm talking about when I say it is always crazy in there. Nothing is put away in its spot and most of the time everything is picked over. Not so in Marysville. Kohls actually looked like a regular store. Judy and I spent 2 hours in there and came away with some great deals. Judy found nice dress pants for FOUR DOLLARS! Can't beat that. We ventured home and prepared to bbq burgers and eat watermelon and drink daquiries. Here are a few pictures:
We hung out at home and watched the fireworks on tv and made sure the house didn't burn down with Judy's crazy neighbors setting off fireworks all over us. We also watched Vantage Point. If you haven't seen it you should see it.
Saturday we finally got going on our scrapbooking. Tim came up to join us. He worked on his laptop while we went to work making pages. We hit up the local scrapbook store and to the store where Tim came up with the idea to make cupcakes. They were super delicious.
The three of us went out for pizza. Judy and I went to the airport to pick up Joel from his week adventure in California.
Sunday Judy and I went to JoAnn's to purchase more scrapbooking supplies...you wouldn't believe how fast one goes through adhesive. Then it was off to see Wall-E with Beth and Tim.
What a great weekend! If only everyweekend could be a three day weekend. I hope everyone had a safe and happy Revolution day!
